Islam Slimani has been given just 19 minutes of Premier League action so far this season, in Leicester City’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in October.
The striker has been handed a couple of Premier League 2 matches recently, which may be more about building his fitness for a move rather than for a meaningful role with Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Having been a star at Sporting, the 32-year-old has struggled since leaving Lisbon and has been hit with several strokes of bad luck. Now, with his contract at Leicester expiring at the end of June, he’ll be thinking about his future and potentially a final contract somewhere.
Le10 Sport report Saint Etienne remain interested, but their idea of a January move may differ from Leicester’s. The French club have ‘not given up’ on taking Slimani in the next window, however, they want to take him on a loan deal.
That would see ASSE have the player until the end of his contract, so rule out any possibility of the English side getting a fee. There’s also the possibility that Leicester would be expected to pay part of the player’s salary.
Should Rodgers decide there’s no possibility of Slimani playing a role in the second half of the season, then it may be the least worst option for Leicester City.
