Everton and Crystal Palace are in the mix to sign Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in the upcoming window.
Inter Milan have identified the 26-year-old as the candidate to replace André Onana, if they sanction the latter’s sale. They are set to face competition from Sean Dyche’s side, the Eagles and a few other Serie A sides to sign Vicario.
That’s according to InterLive.it, who state Inter are ‘not frightened by the competition’ they will face from Everton, Crystal Palace, Juventus, AS Roma, Napoli and Fiorentina for the goalkeeper.
That’s because Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has ‘reached a semi-agreement’ with the stopper’s entourage and also shares a good relationship with his employer. In fact, the Nerazzuri are currently on pole to sign the Italian.
Vicario is well aware he’s attracted attention from several clubs but has refused to discuss his future recently. On the other hand, Empoli manager Paolo Zanetti has admitted he’s likely to leave in the summer.
“I think Vicario won’t stay at Empoli. After the two splendid seasons he has had here, he deserves to go to a top-level team,” Zanetti said.
Although Inter are on pole to sign Vicario, a potential deal would depend on Onana’s exit and them meeting Empoli’s demands. The latter want €20m and this is the main obstacle for Inter to carry out the operation.
Everton or Crystal Palace are unlikely to have issues to meet Vicario’s asking price. This could give them an advantage over Inter, if they are keen to sign him in the summer.
