Sporting Club de Portugal are hoping to finalise a permanent deal with Manchester City for defender Pedro Porro ‘before the end of the season’.
That’s according to Record, who say that securing a deal for the right-back is now at the top of the list of priorities for the Portuguese side.
They say that the Lions plan to activate an €8.5m purchase option in the defender’s loan deal from Manchester City, and it is ‘very likely’ they will not need to wait until May to do so.
They’ve long had an agreement in place with the player on a deal until 2025, but there are ‘edges’ that need to be polished in terms of the deal with Manchester City.
He’s already been linked to the big clubs in Spain, and Sporting could end up pocketing a ‘substantial amount’ in the not too distant future. Manchester City want a slice of that pie in such an eventuality.
Quite how that works given they’ve already agreed on an €8.5m purchase clause isn’t mentioned, although perhaps the two sides are working on reducing that fee for a better percentage of the profits in future.
That would certainly make sense for City, who don’t exactly need the money now and would likely get far more if Porro moves for a big sum in future.
Either way, Sporting have made getting the defender a priority, and his permanent exit from the Etihad should be finalised sooner rather than later.
