Falling out of favour at Aston Villa last season, Frédéric Guilbert ended up going on loan to Strasbourg for the second half of the campaign.

He made 14 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, scoring one goal and assisting another four, during his time there, and impressed enough to warrant them considering him again.

While he did score and assist goals in the 6-0 win over Barrow in the EFL Cup, Guilbert still cannot find space in Dean Smith’s first XI, and an exit is on the cards again.

Both RMC Sport and Foot Mercato are reporting that Strasbourg are ‘negotiating’ with Aston Villa for the right-back, with the latter adding that the former Bordeaux and Caen defender ‘is interested by a new return to France’.

So much so, in fact, that he ‘hopes the two clubs will reach an agreement’.

Neither, however, explain whether the transfer would be a loan or a full on sale, with Guilbert’s contract at Villa Park set to expire in 2023.
