Sevilla need to move quickly to beat Everton to the free signing of Nicolás Tagliafico after the Toffees ‘entered the fray strongly’ for the left-back.
That’s according to Orgullo Biri, who report that Tagliafico’s arrival at Sevilla has been complicated by Everton’s move for the 32-year-old.
The Argentine is wanted by several clubs after becoming a free agent at the end of his deal with Lyon and Sevilla were one of the sides looking to secure his signature. They see him as an ideal reinforcement, particularly on a free transfer.
He has a good relationship with manager Matías Almeyda and they had been hoping that would tip the balance in their favour, but Everton’s interest causes problems.
The belief is that they can use their Premier League money to offer a more competitive salary than the Spanish side. They have resources that Sevilla do not and can use that to their advantage.
Of course, the decision will be Tagliafico’s but the fact that Everton are in the mix is ‘raising the bidding pressure’. Sevilla simply don’t have the finances to match offers from the Premier League club, or indeed other leagues in Europe.
They are now need to move quickly to try and wrap up Tagliafico before Everton or others, or risk losing him and having to turn to other options.
