Trabzonspor are making efforts to sign Wout Weghorst from Burnley in the summer, appearing to give up on the idea of signing Paul Onuachu permanently from Southampton.

That’s according to Fanatik, who say Weghorst could be the man they target as they look to add a striker to their squad.

They explain that manager Abdullah Avci is looking for a specific profile for his centre-forward and has identified Burnley outcast Weghorst as the man to fill it.

He’s had him ‘in mind’ for a while and after making a move for him in January, which was rejected by the player, they are planning another attempt in the summer.

They believe the odds could be in their favour as the striker will be in the last year of his deal at Burnley, who will be keen to sell, and potentially open to receiving offers.

Their interest in the Burnley man comes from a need to potentially replace Onuachu, who has been on loan from Southampton since the summer.

They are happy to sign him on a permanent basis, but Southampton want €10m upwards and that’s a fee the Turkish side don’t want to pay. Whether another loan deal is possible is not yet clear.

Thus, they are turning their attention elsewhere and to Weghorst, whose spell at Besiktas has seemingly convinced Avci.
