To say that Monchi’s move to Aston Villa from Sevilla was acrimonious would be a bit of an understatement, seeing as the director of football left his former club on very bad terms.

That didn’t bother the Premier League club, who now have one of the more reputable transfer gurus to help Unai Emery, with his early work already paying dividends, as the Villa Park side sit 3rd in the Premier League.

Aston Villa’s 2-1 win at the weekend over Tottenham was just another step in the right direction for the Midlands club, as their success is being compared with Sevilla’s downfall by AS.

Monchi is the centrepiece of the article, and it’s made clear that the La Liga side ‘miss’ him ‘like never before’, as they currently languish in a very disappointing 15th spot in the Spanish league.

The transfers put together by Victor Orta pale in success compared to those the Aston Villa director of football has helped with, as the likes of Nicolo Zaniolo continue to find their feet positively.

Not only that, but he is also ‘preparing the winter market’ for Aston Villa, with it believed they will try and add a ‘little more depth’ in their squad, especially up front.

Sevilla can only watch from afar as their legendary director finds success elsewhere, perhaps wishing they should have done more to keep him, especially if his story at his new club ‘continues to unfold as sweetly as it has until now’.
