Valencia are meeting with Brentford today to further discuss their move for Sergi Canós as they look to finalise a deal this week.
That’s according to Tribuna journalist Héctor Gómez, who says the Spanish side are working to finally bring an end to their long, slow pursuit of the Spaniard.
Canós is expected to leave Brentford this summer as he is not a part of their plans moving forwards, having spent the second half of last season on loan with Olympiakos.
The Bees took up an option to extend his deal by another year this summer with the intention of selling him for a decent price and getting some of their money back.
Valencia are keen and he wants the switch to the Mestalla, as the Spanish side are his dream club. Indeed, he wants it so much he’s been holding off Anderlecht in the hope a deal can be done.
Negotiations have been underway for weeks, but Valencia are yet to meet Brentford’s demands, with the Bees wanting a transfer fee and the Spanish side instead trying to do a deal that would instead see them only agree a percentage of a future sale.
The deal has been stuck for weeks because of that but recent reports indicated that Valencia’s decision to sell Yunus Musah and release Edinson Cavani had opened up funds for them to finally sign Canós.
Gómez now follows that up and reports that Valencia ‘will try to finalise’ their move for Canós this week and that they are meeting with Brentford in England today to ‘try to unblock his arrival’.
That’s a definitive step forward on the potential deal and perhaps this long, slow transfer could be finally heading in the right direction.
