Real Sociedad may look to repeat a successful formula of only buying a percentage of players rights to sign Sergio Gómez from Manchester City this summer.
That’s according to El Diario Vasco, who say the Spanish side could use the formula once again to help facilitate a deal with Manchester City.
Reports earlier today indicated that Sociedad are getting closer to a deal for Gómez, with talks between their hierarchy and Manchester City reportedly going well over the last few days.
Those reports, though, failed to indicate what formula would be used to sign the left-back, who has been made a priority target and is keen on the move too.
El Diario Vasco provide a possible answer today, stating La Real could use a formula they’ve employed on several occasions in the past to great success.
They explain that while Gómez and Sociedad are keen, a deal still needs to be struck with Manchester City and, as has been explained, their demands are probably out of Sociedad’s reach at this moment in time.
So ‘high-mindedness and imagination’ are needed to find a way in which Manchester City also benefit from the deal and an old formula could be the key to that.
Real Sociedad would not rely on a loan deal but instead they would buy a percentage of Gómez’s rights and leave the rest with Manchester City.
They’ve done this numerous times in the past, with the likes of Carlos Vela, Diego Llorente, Alexander Isak and Takefusa Kubo all arriving on similar arrangements.
Three of those deals saw the selling clubs make big profits when the players were moved on to other clubs while Kubo is now valued ten times higher than he was at Real Madrid, ensuring they’ll make a big profit from the 50% they still own on him.
Thus, Real Sociedad could tempt Manchester City in the same way, the idea being that they would pay what they can for a certain percentage and leave the rest at the Etihad so they can profit in future should he shine back in Spain.
