Villarreal are willing to offer forward Samuel Chukwueze as part of a deal to keep Tottenham’s Giovanni Lo Celso at the club on a permanent basis.
That’s according to reports relayed by Estadio Deportivo, who say the Spanish side have proposed a swap deal between the two players.
They explain that Villarreal want to make ‘one last effort’ to keep hold of Lo Celso long-term and ‘would be willing’ to offer Chukwueze as part of any deal to do so.
They have made this ‘new proposal’ to Tottenham, suggesting that Spurs offer money plus Lo Celso in exchange for Chukwueze.
The Spanish side are happy to let the forward go as they know renewing his current deal, which expires in 2024, is impossible.
The player himself has admitted that he wants to move on this summer but insisted he will ensure the club make money from any departure as the clubs owners, the Roig family, have treated him well during his time there.
Thus, all parties are working on a potential solution, and it seems one of Villarreal’s ideas is to sell him to Tottenham for cash plus Lo Celso.
Whether Spurs jump at the opportunity remains to be seen, though. They first need to secure a new director of football and Antonio Conte’s replacement before they make any big transfer decisions on a squad that many believe needs something of an overhaul.
They also need to make a final decision on buying Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, with reports indicating that they want to do that, albeit not for the previously agreed price.
He would be a direct competitor for Chukwueze on the right wing, which would presumably rule out this idea, unless the current Villarreal star is happy to compete with the Swedish international and Tottenham want two players for that position moving forwards.
