There’s a clear consensus in the Portuguese media that Liverpool are very close to landing Darwin Nunez from Benfica. All the local newspapers today write the agreement is nearly done, despite claims of a late effort from other Premier League sides to win the race.

There are few different details coming from some outlets, and one of them is Correio da Manhã. They explain that the Eagles are still trying to make an extra €5m in the deal, and that’s because of the percentage they’re losing from the total amount.

It’s explained that from the €80m that Liverpool are paying up front, Benfica are only getting €60m.

A share of €11.2m is going to Almeria, his former club, who agreed to get €11.2m of the profit when selling the player in 2020. Then there’s the 10% of Jorge Mendes, who gets €8m. And finally, some money is going to the player’s former agent Edgardo Lasalvia, as well as intermediaries Bruno Macedo and Paulo Gonçalves.

Still, the agreement is said to be ‘practically closed’.

Benfica are just set to make a counteroffer to get that extra amount and try to make some of the add-ons easier to achieve.

As Jornal de Notícias also reports the deal, they write that the transfer could be announced on Friday.
