AS Roma have identified Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans as a transfer target, according to Romagiallorossa.it.

The 25-year-old has a deal expiring in June and this has convinced the Serie A side’s chief, Tiago Pinto, to include his name in the notebook.

Josè Mourinho’s future at the Italian club beyond this season remains uncertain, but that has not stopped Pinto from identifying the Leicester midfielder as the target.

The Belgium international’s immediate focus is to help the Foxes avoid getting relegated this season. They are currently 17th in the table, level on points with 18th placed Everton.

With regards to his future, the player ‘would seem very inclined’ to represent the Italian club next season, provided the right conditions are created for him to make a switch in the summer.

Tielemans is impressed with Roma’s progress in Europe, especially under Mourinho, where they won the UEFA Conference League last season.

They’ve also made it to the Europa League semi-final this season, and these factors would ‘facilitate any negotiations’ for his arrival at the club.

Roma have made contact to sign the Leicester player but at the moment, he hasn’t made a decision on his future and there will be more clarity on this case next month.

Meanwhile, Pinto ‘keeps pressing to bring in a midfielder that Mourinho respects a lot’.

Roma are likely to face competitions from other clubs, which isn’t mentioned in the report.
