Serie A side Lazio are making a new attempt for the signing of Olivier Giroud, according to reports from Italy.

Gazzetta Dello Sport write that the club were actually close to signing the Frenchman in January, when they reached a personal agreement with his entourage.

However, Chelesea managed to hold him for longer. That’s something the Blues can’t do now, since his contract expires at the end of the season.

Lazio are considered to have an advantage for the signing now, because even though the same agreement won’t be valid for the summer market, they are confident that Giroud’s representatives really liked what they heard during the winter negotiations.

But they also know they’re not alone in the race. Several European sides are said to be interested in the striker, including Serie A rivals Inter Milan.

The outlet doesn’t even consider the possibility of a contract renewal with Chelsea, believing Giroud is planning to leave the club soon.
