Before we talk about what has just happened between Flamengo and João Gomes, we better recall what happened prior to his move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in January.
The Brazilian club first had a deal with Wolves for th transfer, and the midfielder was about to fly to England to complete the move.
That’s when Lyon showed up willing to pay more, and the Rio de Janeiro side accepted that bid.
Flamengo then expected João Gomes to sign for the French club, but that didn’t happen.
The player insisted on keeping his word with the Molineux side, and the situation was put on hold until the Premier League club finally raised their bid and got the signing done.
Now it seems there are some hard feelings between Flamengo and the player because of that situation, with the Série A club clearly deciding on a very petty move.
As reported by journalist Venê Casagrande, the Brazilian side did not make any social media posts about the midfielder’s birthday this week.
That’s a sign that the relationship between them isn’t the best, and that’s very likely to be related to what happened in the January transfer window, with him insisting on moving to Wolves.
“João Gomes’ birthday passed and Flamengo did not pay any homage to the boy, who’s homegrown, a supporter of the club and has always honoured the shirt,” says Venê Casagrande.
