There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Trabzonspor are interested in signing Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar.
The Trabzon club are looking to reinforce their squad this summer and have been linked with a number of players from England in the past few weeks.
According to Karadeniz Gazete, the Super Lig side have switched their attention to the Newcastle player after negotiations to sign Marseille’s Samuel Gigot stalled.
The Frenchman is reportedly the Super Lig’s number one target and despite reaching an agreement with his club they are struggling to convince him over a move to Turkey.
Subsequently it’s claimed they are now targeting Schar, with reports they’ve been in contact with the central defender. Trabzonspor are hoping to take advantage of his contract situation with the Premier League side and get a good value deal.
With the 32-year-old currently in Germany with the Swiss national team, who have qualified for the Euro 2024 knockouts, any possible talks are likely to be done after the tournament.
Schar made 47 appearances for Newcastle United last season, scoring five goals.
