On July 28th, journalists Nil Solà and Ivan Quirós reported Girona have included Aston Villa’s Àlex Moreno in their target list.

Four days later, Diari de Girona reported the La Liga club have rekindled their interest, after trying to sign the left-back in 2017, when he was at Rayo Vallecano.

The 32-year-old left Real Betis for Aston Villa in January 2023 and spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Estadio Deportivo now report the 32-year-old wants to return to Spain this summer.

Real Betis are said to be looking for a left-back and Moreno can be an option. However, he’s also attracting interest from Girona, who are pushing to secure his services after selling Miguel Gutiérrez to Napoli.

L’Esportiu de Catalunya report Girona have identified the Aston Villa player as the main target to replace Gutiérrez.

They add Unai Emery isn’t counting on him this season and the Catalan-born defender is very keen to play football closer to home.

Journalist Ivan Quirós, relayed by El Desmarque, reports the Catalan club have made ‘considerable progress’ in their efforts to sign Moreno.
