Bayern Munich are looking forward to a potential ‘poker game’ to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham and have a clear plan in mind to secure his signature this summer or next.
That’s according to SportBILD, who cover Tottenham’s all-time record goal scorer today amid Bayern’s desire to add to their forward line.
The newspaper explains that Bayern are currently focused on an extension for striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting with sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and the player’s agent Roger Wittman insisting they are in ‘good talks’.
Both agree to an extension in principle but there are currently differences in terms of the length of the deal and how much the player will earn.
That has led to increased speculation about a move for another striker in the summer and for Bayern it is now a case of ‘Harry Kane or nothing’.
The German giants are planning a move for him regardless but if they can tie up Choupo-Moting early it would mean they can ‘look forward’ to the poker game for the Tottenham star with one less concern hanging over them.
Those in charge at Bayern know that the striker market will be ‘very tight’ this summer and there will likely be big competition for Kane’s signature if he is available.
They’re determined to get the Tottenham forward, though, as the club’s ‘internal analysis’ has come to the conclusion that no other international striker would fit the profile they’re looking for as well as him.
Financially, they don’t see themselves as able to bid for Kane after spending €8m on Yann Sommer unexpectedly and a busy summer last year.
That’s not ruled them out entirely, however, and there is ‘some hope’ that they could do a deal if need be. If it were to turn into an auction, though, that is where the trouble may lie.
Those in charge in Munich have heard that Kane will ‘take his time’ with a decision about his future and whether to extend with Tottenham or move on.
One positive is that Spurs do not want to sell to a Premier League rival and so would block a move to Manchester United if they were also to attempt anything.
It is also not out of the question that Kane lets his contract run down until next summer and leave, at which point Bayern would also be interested, particularly as he’d be available on a free.
It’s a situation that’s in the air, then, but one thing is certain for the German champions, it is ‘Kane or nothing’ in the coming months.
