Roma will look to ‘clarify the situation’ at Leeds United before pushing for another move for defender Diego Llorente this summer.
That’s according to Il Tempo, relayed by Voce Giallo Rossa, who say that Roma want to see if they can avoid having to pay for the defender.
The newspaper reports that Llorente has made it clear that he would like to remain at Roma next season following his loan spell there this season.
Manager Daniele de Rossi has shown several times that he trusts the player and would be happy to keep him and the Italian side have a gentleman’s agreement in place to sign him permanently for €5m.
However, he could stay for another year on loan as there is a clause in his current deal at Leeds that allows him to leave on loan.
That’s a clause that he and several other players took advantage of last summer following their relegation and facilitated his move to Roma in the first place.
With Leeds failing to make it back to the Premier League, Roma want to understand if that clause is still in play and incoming technical director Florent Ghisolfi plans to ‘clarify the situation’ with Leeds before making any moves.
There seems to be some confusion over whether the clause was linked to Leeds being in the Championship or being relegated and it seems talks are needed to work that out before any further business can take place.
If it is linked to them being in the Championship, then Roma appear to be eyeing up another loan rather than honouring the gentleman’s agreement between the two sides.
