On Monday evening, the Brazilian media revealed that Chelsea’s offer for Santos youngster Deivid Washington has been accepted.
The Blues are spending over €15m on a youngster who wasn’t even a starter at his club, and that seems to have caught many people by surprise.
As now written by Globo Esporte, Chelsea’s effort to sign Deivid Washington suddenly placed Santos in a ‘dilemma’ which is difficult to resolve.
Deivid Washington is just 18, and as he’s shown good potential, he’d be the natural successor to the centre-forward position. That is, until Chelsea placed their bid.
Santos decided to accept the Blues’ offer for the youngster, but with Marcos Leonardo also wanting to make the move to Europe, he asked not to train and is making it clear he wants out.
Santos are going through a delicate phase, entering the relegation zone last weekend. They already sold Angelo to Chelsea this summer, and if negotiating the exits of their two strikers now, that would be a great risk, regardless of how much money would enter their accounts.
Globo Esporte makes it sound like Deivid Washington’s transfer to Chelsea is the one closest to being done, as things moved forward ‘quickly’. Now Santos need to decide what to do with Marcos Leonardo.
Maybe if the Blues accepted letting the teenager stay until January, that would be a great solution to this problem.
