Real Sociedad have been left ‘very surprised’ by the rumours linking them with a  move for Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani.

That’s according to Cadena Ser, who say the Spanish club ‘don’t understand’ how a rumour started on social media became something much bigger.

For those that don’t know, Cavani is out of contract at Manchester United this summer and looks set to leave on a free transfer having found himself down the pecking order following Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival.

He’s been linked with clubs all over the world, with many still believing that the 35-year-old is a viable option despite his age.

Real Sociedad had found themselves brought into the mix of clubs being linked, but it seems those reports caught out those in charge at the Reale Arena.

Cadena Ser report that they were ‘very surprised’ that the rumour developed as it did and don’t understand how something that started on social networks has ‘grown so big’ and to the point that some have taken a move for granted.

That’s because ‘there is nothing’ with the striker, although that could change in future.

For the moment, there is no offer from Real Sociedad to sign him when he leaves Manchester United, nor are there any talks or anyone from San Sebastien showing ‘any interest’ in signing him.

It is, in fact, Cavani’s agent who is ‘offering him’ around the world and looking for a top European club to bite, but there is a ‘long way to go’ before there is any with Real Sociedad.

At this point, he is not on La Real’s radar, but that can always change as they are looking for a striker in the summer transfer window.
