Celtic’s Matt O’Riley is back on Atlético Madrid’s transfer agenda after Brendan Rodgers’ side turned down their approach in the winter market.
In February, Tipsbladet reported Celtic had rejected a ‘gigantic’ bid from the La Liga side.
Atlético tried signing the 23-year-old on loan with an obligation to buy set at £18m, which didn’t please Celtic. It was also stated the Glasgow club would demand in excess of £25m for O’Riley in the summer window.
Friday’s edition of Marca says Los Rojiblancos are looking to strengthen their midfield and the Celtic star is included in their target list.
His performance in the final against Bayer Leverkusen has convinced Atlético to bet on him, but it won’t be easy for them to sign the Brazilian, probably because of the price and competition.
Therefore, the Madrid club are looking at other options and this is where the Celtic star fits in. The Denmark international faced Atlético twice in the Champions League this season and registered an assist in their 2-2 draw at Celtic Park.
Marca say O’Riley ‘left a good impression’ and whether that’s enough for Diego Simeone’s side to make another attempt needs to be seen. Atlético have to meet Celtic’s demand of over £25m, if they wish to sign him in the next window.
