Bayer Leverkusen have been left feeling ‘outplayed’ by Brentford after the Premier League side secured a deal for Liverpool’s Sepp van den Berg.

That’s according to Kicker, who cover the player’s move today and how it could end up having ‘consequences’ for the German champions.

Van den Berg completed a move to Brentford yesterday, finally sealing his departure from Liverpool after months of speculation about his future.

Reports had made it clear that he had plenty of offers on the table, including in the Bundesliga, with Leverkusen also in the mix for him.

Kicker report that the defender was ‘highly regarded’ by Leverkusen and would have been an ideal replacement for Odilon Kossonou should he depart.

Van den Berg ended up deciding against a return to the Bundesliga, though. Instead, he has moved to Brentford and stayed in the Premier League.

Leverkusen have been left feeling ‘outplayed’ in that regard and the decision could have ‘consequences’ for them too.

If Kossonou were to leave, with Crystal Palace chasing his signature, the man they had identified as a replacement is no longer available.

Thus, an exit would open up a hole in their defence that would have to be filled, somehow, before the end of the transfer window.
