Manchester United have Real Sociedad star Martín Zubimendi on their transfer radar.
That’s according to today’s Mundo Deportivo, who state the La Liga side have ‘learned first-hand’ the midfielder is wanted by the Red Devils.
Erik ten Hag and his side took a closer look at the 24-year-old when they faced La Real twice in the group stages of the Europa League earlier this season.
It’s said the Spain international’s ‘dazzling’ performances ‘seduced’ the Premier League side.
Apart from Manchester United, Sociedad are aware of Barcelona and Arsenal desire to sign him. The newspaper states these clubs can ‘double the salary’ of the player, who had signed a new deal [until 2027] with his current employer last October.
Real Sociedad, for their part, haven’t received any formal offers for the midfielder so far. They have no intention to negotiate his sale and any club that want to sign him will have to pay his €60m release clause.
Despite interest from Manchester United and others, Sociedad have absolute conviction that Zubimendi will be at the club next season.
The player’s aware that the opportunity to play in the Champions League with La Real is not easy to achieve regularly. Sociedad are currently fourth in the table.
These factors, coupled with Zubimendi’s desire to continue at Sociedad would make it difficult for Ten Hag’s side or another club to secure his services in the summer.
