Ajax are ‘knocking on the door’ to sign Wout Weghorst from Burnley this summer and are convinced he can be a ‘sensation’ for them.

That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say Ajax want to secure a ‘stunt’ transfer this summer and are looking at the Burnley outcast as the man to fill that role.

They report that according to several sources around the Dutch club, they have already had discussions with the Burnley striker, who is open to the move once he returns from a loan spell with TSG Hoffenheim.

However, that does not mean the transfer will be easy to get done and it will require a ‘precision operation’ from all parties.

Ajax don’t have much money to spend and are prioritising a right-winger at this moment in time, but they do see the Burnley striker as a potential replacement for Chuba Akpom.

They want to keep him, but the reality is that he could secure a nice transfer sum for them this summer and if he does, Weghorst would be the replacement. Those in charge believe he could be a ‘sensation’ for the Dutch club.

A deal is complicated, though, as Ajax don’t want to let Akpom go before August 1st, when the second round of Europa League qualifying takes place.

He’s key to that so they want to use him and then potentially move him on, so the question is whether Weghorst can be patient and wait for his chance.

Ajax have already spoken to Weghorst and his agent Simon Cziommer about the plan and a potential move. The Burnley man would welcome it, and so would Ajax, but it’s currently a waiting game for the Dutch giants.
