Loaned to Royal Excel Mouscron for the season, Liverpool’s Taiwo Awoniyi is having a whale of a time in Belgium.

Scoring seven goals and picking up five assists in 26 appearances, the 20-year-old is biding his time until he can get a work permit to eventually play in England.

On his third loan since arriving at Anfield from the Imperial Academy in Nigeria, the striker is impressing everyone around him, to the extent they want to see him stay at the club beyond this season.

According to Sport/Foot, Mouscron, who wanted to add a buying clause in their talks over the summer, something Liverpool refused, are likely to ask for a loan extension.

This comes via their director of football Jürgen Röber, who is expected to hold talks with Jürgen Klopp’s side to discuss the matter.

Last summer, we covered claims from the player’s entourage that Liverpool’s wish was to see their starlet play on this side of the Channel in the near future so he can get used to English football, and there’s a feeling a lot will depend on whether or not that’s a possibility next season.

If Awoniyi is eligible for a work permit, then our guess will be that Liverpool will say no to Mouscron.
