For weeks, the Portuguese media has been making it clear that Benfica and Wolverhampton Wanderers have an agreement for Gonçalo Guedes to spend another year on loan with the Eagles.
That deal was never confirmed by the clubs, though. But even with the player recently going to England, where he was seen with Wolves’ squad last week, it was said the agreement was still on.
It turns out that today, Spanish outlets Estadio Deortivo and Mundo Deportivo come up to say that Guedes could actually end up in La Liga.
Mundo Deportivo write that the winger has turned into one of the options Real Betis have for the end of the summer window.
The Spanish club are looking for a new winger, and the Wolves player is one of the cheap alternatives to Barcelona’s Ez Abde.
Covering that story, Estadio Deportivo comes up with a longer piece explaining how the talks for a ‘bombshell’ Guedes move make sense.
Betis are struggling to pay for signings this summer, and finding a deal for a loan with an option to buy is seen as a good way forward.
So with the Portuguese media insisting for so long that Benfica had a deal, we shall see how they react to this news.
Guedes has a contract with Wolves until 2027, and currently recovers from a knee surgery.
