When Arsenal signed Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna, the Japan international’s versatility was one of the main reasons for the purchase.
Capable of playing in the middle of the defence or down the right, the defender was targeted to help Mikel Arteta’s squad depth, and it worked until he suffered a bad knee injury that required surgery in March.
By then, the player had been more of a rotational option for Arsenal, and that’s why Inter Milan, as explained by Gazzetta dello Sport, are interested in trying their luck to sign him.
Knowing there is an opportunity there for a player who knows Serie A well and could easily adapt to their football, the Italian side are keen on acquiring the 24-year-old.
As things stand, it’s revealed that Inter ‘would like him on loan’, and they don’t even mention an option to buy, suggesting it would just be a one year affair.
That doesn’t seem to please Arsenal, who ‘have only shown willingness to sell him outright’, meaning that he is dispensable if the right offer comes in.
Considering the growth Arsenal have undergone of late, perhaps they feel they can do better than Tomiyasu in the long run, and while he can be of use, they would rather sell him now and reuse the funds into someone better.
