Surprising news from Brazil this week says that Flamengo are interested in the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The information comes from Rafa Belmonte, who on Twitter, claims the Rio de Janeiro side would like to get the midfielder in the summer window.

It’s said the 22-year-old is one of Flamengo’s targets along with Boca Juniors’ Eduardo Salvio, but there are no details on how much the club would pay for their arrivals.

Although it’s not clear if Rafa Belmonte is a reliable journalist, a few Flamengo dedicated websites are pointing out he’s been getting good information lately.

With 18 appearances for Brighton this season, Mac Allister has been given chances by Graham Potter in the past few Premier League fixtures, making it clear his adaptation to English football has already happened.

That’s why it’s strange to see a South American club being linked to the midfielder at this stage. Even though Flamengo are now a rich club who became Brazilian champions on Thursday night, it’s hard to imagine Mac Allister leaving Europe right after settling in.

So we should wait for more reliable outlets to confirm that the Rio de Janeiro club are indeed trying to take Mac Allister away from the Seagulls, perhaps with an explanation on this interest in the first place.
