Borussia Dortmund are ‘intensively considering’ what to do about Chelsea loanee Carney Chukwuemeka at the end of the season.
That’s according to Ruhr Nachrichten, relayed by BVBWLD, who explain what the current thinking at the German club is.
The newspaper says that a permanent transfer for the midfielder is likely off the table at this moment in time as Dortmund are formulating a new plan for the Chelsea loanee.
They are ‘intensively considering’ a future with Chukwuemeka but are unlikely to pursue a permanent deal, particularly if they miss out on Champions League football this season.
The 21-year-old has ‘certainly impressed’ with his performances but a permanent move is off the table, largely because of his asking price. Dortmund would have to raise €35-40 for the deal. That would be ‘almost impossible’ for them, especially without extra Champions League revenue.
The Bundesliga side would also have different future plans for the squad and so instead want to loan Chukwuemeka on loan again next season if they can. That, though, is dependent on them qualifying for Europe.
This idea is seen as the ‘realistic solution’ within the club as it would offer advantages for everyone, including Chelsea, who could leave the midfielder to develop away from Stamford Bridge.
Whether the Blues see the matter in that light remains to be seen but Dortmund now appear to be ignoring the purchase clause they have and focusing entirely on a new loan deal instead.
