Southampton are interested in signing Unión de Santa Fe’s Jerónimo Dómina, according to El Litoral.
The Saints have secured promotion back to the Premier League, and they now need to reshape their current squad in the summer window.
It’s not clear whether Dómina would be part of Southampton’s immediate future plans, but they have still made an approach for him.
The 18-year-old graduated from Unión’s academy in 2023, and has featured regularly for them since then. The young attacker has managed five goals and two assists from 46 games for Unión’s first team.
Southampton have sent an offer to the Argentina club via agency Squadra Management Deportivo, who take care of the youngster’s interest. Unión found the English club’s offer ‘interesting’, but it wasn’t enough for them to accept it.
It’s claimed Russell Martin’s side wanted to sign the Argentine on a free loan deal with a €1m purchase option excluding bonuses.
“We found the destination very interesting, for the English market; but insufficient in accordance with economic expectations,” a source close to Unión told El Litoral.
The report adds the negotiations between the two clubs took place a few weeks ago. It now remains to be seen whether Southampton will return with an improved offer to sign Dómina.
