Schalke are increasingly confident they can sign Michal Karbownik from Brighton and Hove Albion this summer after he was left out of the Seagulls’ tour of the USA.
That’s according to Der Westen, who say the German side need to ‘hurry up’ though as Hamburger SV are also considering a move.
Karbownik has returned to Brighton from a loan spell at Fortuna Dusseldorf last season, where he was a regular for them.
It was his second such loan deal away from Brighton since joining from Legia Warsaw for €5.5m in October 2020, having also gone out to Olympiakos in Greece for a season.
Brighton currently value the 22-year-old at €3m, a figure that’s a lot of money for the ‘financially battered Pottklub’, who have received money from departures but are still lacking funds.
They are confident they can get their man, though, and that has been increased by the fact Karbownik has not flown with Brighton to their training camp in the USA.
The Seagulls have not commented on why that is the case, but it is increasingly clear that they aren’t planning with Karbownik, particularly as his deal expires next summer.
That has ruled out a loan deal, which doesn’t suit Schalke and their tight finances, but the fact he doesn’t appear to be in Brighton’s plans and has been left out of their tour is a boost to their hopes of doing a deal.
