A couple of Portuguese newspapers today speak about Everton not buying Ruben Vinagre from Sporting.
One of those stories comes from Jornal de Notícias, and is about the Portuguese club ‘dreaming with the millions’ they could make in case their loanees are bought.
Vinagre is one of them, but the outlet quickly claims that the player is ‘almost not being used’ at Everton, and therefore the €21m buying option will ‘hardly be triggered’ by the Toffees.
Meanwhile, O Jogo‘s piece is only about Sporting, and they refer to Vinagre as the potential ‘jackpot’ the Lions would have at the end of the season.
It’s recalled that Vinagre could not convince at the Lisbon side, and selling him to Everton would be a way to recover the money they paid for his signing.
However, they say that will ‘not be easy’ because of the ‘low performance’ he’s been showing at the Toffees. According to O Jogo, the player’s agent Jorge Mendes will try ‘in the summer’ to find a solution for all parties. Still, they also mention the possibility of a new loan in January, as that’s ‘not ruled out’.
So it all sounds like it’s Everton who will decide whether to give Vinagre a new chance in the second part of the season or just give up on his loan now.
