Last week, we covered claims from Portugal which stated Aston Villa had dropped out of the chase for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix. Those claims may have been a little optimistic on behalf of Benfica.
The previous report was from Record and it mentioned that Villa have ‘abandoned’ their chase for the Portuguese star, giving ‘hope’ to Benfica.
Record have an update about the situation and they now state that Benfica are keen for Aston Villa to ‘give up’ any idea of the signing.
This would help Benfica get a better deal for their former player, as Atletico Madrid would lower their demands due to a lack of competition from other clubs.
The report states Villa continue to keep tabs on Joao Felix, and reading between the lines of recent reports from both Portugal and Spain it appears there is still a little interest from Monchi but on the basis of a bargain loan deal.
Benfica want a permanent transfer, leaving Atletico with 50% of the proceeds from a future move.
