Real Madrid are hoping that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy ‘feels the pressure’ to sell Harry Kane this summer and thus lets him go for a ‘substantially lower’ amount.
That’s according to AS, who say the England star is Real Madrid’s ‘priority target’ to reinforce their forward line this summer, even if Karim Benzema doesn’t leave.
They explain that the Frenchman’s continuity at the Santiago Bernabeu is almost a given despite numerous rumours linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Despite that, Real Madrid believe Kane is the right man to reinforce the team’s attack for the 2023/24 season and signing him has now been made a ‘priority issue’ after they do a deal for Jude Bellingham.
Signing Kane is not linked to Benzema’s future, with the club believing that the two could be ‘fully compatible’, as Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo were in the past.
A move for the Tottenham star doesn’t quite fit with Madrid’s policy of signing younger players given he is about to turn 30 but it is felt that the squad needs a striker who can take over Benzema’s mantle when he is absent.
Kane is also Ancelotti’s ‘preferred striker’ and signing him would be a reaffirmation of Ancelotti’s commitment to the club.
The battle for him is likely to be a ‘tough’ one, though, as there are plenty of suitors for the Tottenham captain given his contract expires in 2024.
That is an advantage for Real Madrid in a negotiation that they assume won’t be easy. Kane is currently valued at €115m but the Spanish giants hope that as the summer progresses that Levy ‘feels the pressure’ to sell.. and the price for Kane becomes ‘substantially lower’.
