Not long after the January transfer window, it was repeatedly reported in Italy that Celtic were keen on making Diego Laxalt’s loan from AC Milan a permanent stay, although there was some worry about the management at the Glasgow club.

It was thought that if Neil Lennon was shown the door, which he later was, then the uncertainty would delay any permanent move, and a new manager would have to assess his options before deciding whether he wanted the left-back to remain at Celtic beyond this season.

Things have changed somewhat, and it’s now questionable whether Celtic are as keen as they once were on the 28-year-old. One thing, however, remains clear, and that’s Milan not wanting to take the player back in the summer.

Milan Live report that the Serie A club are looking to fully part ways with the player, who will have a year left on his contract come the end of the season. They ‘hope’ Celtic will make a move for a permanent deal, yet if that fails they’ll actively look for another destination for Laxalt.

A deal is there to be done for Celtic should they so wish, and it’s likely not going to cost the figures Milan expected when they sent their player on loan to Scotland.
