Benfica have started moving to sign André Gomes from Everton, according to claims from Portugal.
The initial report came from Nuno Farinho, via Mais Futebol. There, he said that the Eagles held a meeting with the player’s brother.
He doesn’t have more details of how this conversation went, but is sure that it happened, as the Eagles are looking to sign the Everton player very soon.
Gomes’ contract with the Toffees expires at the end of the season, so he’s about to be free to sign a pre-contract with any club he wants.
The report doesn’t even mention a potential agreement between Benfica and Everton, as the Eagles’ main mission would be to make a satisfying contract offer to the player.
All those at the table were excited with the news, with Diogo Luís pointing out that’d be a ‘great signing’ for Benfica, as he’d solve many of their problems in midfield.
Gomes was out of Everton’s squad for months, but recently returned to the team and played in their last two Premier League matches, against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
He’s back in form and letting him go now may seem odd for Everton after they’ve waited so long for this level from him.
