Over the past few weeks, following reports that Southampton defender Lyanco was looking to a return to Brazil, we saw stories saying Botafogo were interested in his signing.

It was claimed that the Rio de Janeiro side would like to land the player on a loan deal, as it was considered unlikely that they’d spend much money on that.

It turns out that as journalist Jorge Nicola features on his YouTube channel some transfer news today, he claims that Botafogo have actually given up on the signing.

It’s said the club tried the transfer ‘in recent ‘days’, but the numbers demanded by Southampton are ‘too high’.

That’s why the Brazilian side are going after other targets.

Lyanco only has nine appearances made for the Saints this season, and has even been used as a right-back sometimes.

Since Southampton spent €7.5m on his signing from Torino last year, it sounded obvious that they wouldn’t let him just walk on a loan at this stage.

Reports from Brazil had claimed the player would respect the club’s decision in case they don’t let him go, so there should be no rebellion from him.
