This week, we covered the agent of Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte completely hyping up the rumours about a potential Liverpool move.
Representative Jorge Chijane confirmed to the media that the Reds are one of the clubs who want the player, and claimed it’s ‘almost certain’ the 22-year-old is leaving the Lions this summer, as his situation should be sorted in a couple of weeks.
Well, it turns out that Sporting didn’t like that, and as reported by Correio da Manhã, they’ve ‘forbidden’ any talks for Ugarte.
It’s said that following the agent’s comments about Liverpool, the club even told the Reds there could be sanctions from UEFA regarding the harassment of a player in the middle of the season.
Club president Frederico Varandas reportedly also made it known that the midfielder is now only leaving for the amount on his release clause, which is €60m.
Perhaps Liverpool aren’t even guilty of trying to sign a player at this stage of the season, but his agent definitely said too much, and may have to learn something from Jorge Mendes, who’s a partner of his in the quest for Ugarte’s move this summer.
