With a Champions League ban now overturned, it’s widely expected that Manchester City will be among the busier sides this summer.
Pep Guardiola will want to overhaul his squad after losing out to Liverpool so severely, and one of the issues he will have to solve is the gap left by Leroy Sané.
The German’s move to Bayern Munich has left something of a hole in his squad, and it seems the man the City boss has elected to fill it is Valencia’s, Ferran Torres.
We’ve covered several reports over the last few weeks indicating that City are keen on him and, over the previous two days, that has picked up significantly.
Indeed, today alone Super Deporte dedicated a two page spread to the transfer, stating confidently that ‘all or most’ roads lead to Manchester City for him this summer and his name is ‘doubly underlined’ at the Etihad.
Valencia, they say, ‘need to sell’ and want to use the money from any potential deal to ‘rejuvenate the squad and inject new life.’
During the negotiations, Manchester City have raised the possibility of including midfielder Yangel Hererra as part of the deal.
This was part of the rumours yesterday, with it explained that Valencia are keen on him after his impressive performances for Granada this season.
However, those same reports indicated that including the midfielder had been rejected by Valencia chief Peter Lim, who wants to keep any deal separate from one including Torres.
Cadena Ser back this up, saying that while Valencia are keen on Herrera, they don’t want to pay City’s €15m asking price, which they consider ‘excessive’.
They only want to commit to taking him on loan next season as they need to take into account their financial situation next season.
That would indicate they’re not going to accept him as part of a deal for Torres either, meaning Manchester City will have to either stump up the cash or miss out on a player who appears to be a top target this summer.
