Spanish side Sevilla are concerned that Victor Orta may be about to lead them into disaster in the transfer market, repeating his mistakes from Leeds United.
That’s according to Vamos Mi Sevilla, who cover the director of football today and ‘the ghost that haunts’ Orta from his time at Elland Road.
They explain that Sevilla are going to face a complicated summer, probably their hardest of the last 20 years, as they are in the middle of an economic crisis and won’t be receiving extra money from competing in Europe.
That will lead Orta to ‘get rid’ of his most talented players and sign players at zero cost in an effort to balance the books.
He’s under the spotlight at this moment in time and Vamos explain that recently saw journalist Manolo Aguilar covering him on Cadena SER during a piece in which he read out an interview with the Leeds general manager after he had sacked Orta last year.
In it, he accused the director of football of focusing on ‘emerging young figures’, both on the pitch and on the bench, and failing to sign more experienced players to help overcome the more complicated parts of a season.
It was this lack of balance which led to Leeds’ struggles and Sevilla fear a repeat, particularly after a January window that saw youngsters targeted.
That’s seen as a hint of what will happen in the summer but the growing concern is Orta will repeat what he did at Elland Road, building an inexperienced team unable to cope with bad results.
They believe there needs to be a proper balance to the side with experience mixed in too, or it could be another year of flirting with relegation, something nobody wants after already doing it for the last two years.
