‘The market is unpredictable, everything is true but also the exact opposite, and what seems impossible suddenly becomes achievable, or vice versa.’
The above is a line of text from a Corriere Dello Sport article on Napoli interest in Giovani Lo Celso and Teun Koopmeiners.
Essentially, the Serie A champions what to pay much less than what Tottenham and Atalanta would ask for, and appear to be hoping for some kind of transfer miracle.
Monday’s edition of the newspaper says Napoli’s strategy is to sign Lo Celso on loan, with a redemption option at ‘reasonable figures’.
Those figures would be ‘very far away’ from what it’s thought Tottenham would want.
There’s optimism, and then there’s delusion, and this slant appears to be edging towards the latter. Lo Celso doesn’t appear to be a player who Spurs are absolutely desperate to get rid of, so there’s no reason for them to simply collapse and give in to what Napoli want.
Of course, such an approach from an Italian club isn’t unusual, with there being a clear view among Serie A sides that players can be signed from the Premier League – even players who could be considered stars – for relative peanuts.
Sometimes it works, but Tottenham giving in so much in this case is unlikely.
