Reports in Spain indicated in July that Manchester City had identified Mikel Oyarzabal as a potential candidate to replace Leroy Sane, if the latter leaves the Etihad.
On July 30th, Mundo Deportivo reported Real Sociedad have ‘no indication’ to suggest Pep Guardiola’s side are chasing the winger and they believed the Premier League winners would have informed them if there was an interest.
Despite that, Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo claims Sociedad have one eye on England and La Real will not have any relief until the Premier League transfer window is shut.
Sociedad believe City would have no issue paying Oyarzabal’s €75m release clause, more so if Sane ends up joining Bayern Munich. Therefore, they view the English champions as a potential threat for Oyarzabal.
Everything hinges on Sane’s injury, which he suffered during his side’s Community Shield victory over Liverpool.
A decision will be taken today whether or not Sane has to undergo a surgery and since his injury seems serious, Mundo state the situation could favour Sociedad in retaining Oyarzabal.
Sociedad have so far not been informed about a City intention to pay his release clause.
In the event of Manchester City making an approach for Oyarzabal, it will be down to the player to make a decision on his future.
