Eventually bought from 1.FSV Mainz 05 for €11m, Jean-Philippe Mateta hasn’t really become a key player under Patrick Vieira at Crystal Palace.
The 25-year-old might have represented the Eagles 20 times in all competitions, but he’s only found the back of the net once, and only six of those games have seen him be in the starting XI.
That’s why there are a few stories about his future at Crystal Palace, especially with Odsonne Edouard clearly being the preferred man.
Fichajes look at the player’s situation, and point out that Mateta’s career ‘seems to have stalled in England’ at Selhurst Park.
He isn’t ‘fulfilling the expectations generated’ and there is a belief that he could leave London in the next summer transfer window.
They then add that the asking price ‘could be around €10m’, as they main intention from Crystal Palace will be to recuperate what they initially paid.
Beyond that, he’s described as a striker with ‘spectacular qualities’, and Monchi, over at Sevilla, is ‘aware of the talent’ at the Frenchman’s disposal and ‘could take advantage of his drop in performance’ to get him at a reduced price.
Something to keep an eye on.
