Genoa are ‘interested’ in a move for Southampton defender Duje Caleta-Car as they look to strengthen for their return to Serie A.
That’s according to Gianluca di Marzio, who says the Italian side are looking into a deal for the Croatian this summer.
He reports that Genoa want to ‘further strengthen the defence’ this summer after already making signings and they have identified Caleta-Car as a possible option.
They like what they’ve seen of him during his career so far, even at Southampton, who he joined in September last year from Marseille and made 19 appearances for in all competitions as they were relegated from the Premier League.
They’re particularly keen as they see him a defender with a ‘goal-scoring habit’ and that could be a ‘fundamental detail’ for the club as they battle to stay up next season.
Thus they are looking into a possible deal with Southampton this summer, although there is no mention of a transfer fee at this point.
One sticking point could the wages he picks up at St Mary’s, which are considered to be ‘quite high’ and it seems it would be a problem for Genoa to match.
That’s a detail which would have to be worked out in any negotiations, with them just interested at this stage and yet to make any concrete moves.
