Dutch side Heerenveen are working on a deal to take Chelsea youngster Charlie Webster to the club on loan next season.
That’s according to Leeuwarder Courant, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, who say the 19-year-old would spend a season on loan in the Netherlands.
They explain that Heerenveen are planning for a major overhaul of their midfield in this transfer window, with several players departing and needing to be replaced.
They are searching for those replacements and have identified Webster as a potential addition to aid their efforts.
Webster currently plays for Chelsea’s U21 side and is yet to make his debut for the senior squad. He has already been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, though, with PSV linked at the end of December.
The newspaper believes Heerenveen’s interest may stem from Kenneth Zandvlie, who is the new chief scout for the Dutch club.
He was previously a youth scout at Chelsea, meaning Webster is a player he may be more than aware of.
At the moment there is no suggestion that Heerenveen are discussing a deal with Chelsea or have been in touch to get one arranged, just that Webster is on their list of possible targets to reinforce their midfield this summer.
