Barcelona may eye up deals for Arsenal duo Jorginho and Kai Havertz in the January transfer window as they again look to work the market to their advantage.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who name the Arsenal duo on a list of players Barcelona could look at in the winter window.
They explain that Barcelona believe there will be more opportunities for them in January like the ones this summer, with the end of that window seeing them capture Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo on loan thanks to their situations at Atletico Madrid and Manchester City respectively.
The belief is that the market ‘almost gives away players’ who were not so long-ago superstar signings and that could be the case at Arsenal.
First there is Jorginho, who is out of contract at the Emirates next summer and currently has a ‘diminishing role’ at the club thanks to the arrival of Declan Rice.
His signing was ‘celebrated’ in January but now, with his contract expiring, Arsenal are considering ‘doing business with him’ a year later so they can go and sign Kalvin Phillips. That’s at least according to Mundo, who believe there is a deal there to be done for Barcelona.
The second potential cheap signing could be Kai Havertz, who has struggled to impress since his big move from Chelsea in the summer.
‘Information from England’ is that Arsenal are ‘starting to get fed up’ with the German, who has not scored, assisted or even had a shot on target for the club yet.
He’s already found himself on the bench and although it is early, there are growing concerns about him and a considerable waste of money this summer.
His poor start at Arsenal, coupled with a ‘terrible finish’ at Chelsea means clubs like Barcelona are ‘attentive’ to the situation as they still consider him a ‘talented player with a long career ahead of him’.
Whether a deal could be done in January will depend on the next few months but, at least in Catalonia, they believe he’s a name to keep an eye on.
