Flamengo are expecting ‘significantly higher offers’ to arrive for defender Wesley França after turning down Aston Villa.

That’s according to journalist Bruno Lemos, who says Aston Villa’s rejected €15m bid is unlikely to be the end of attempts to get the highly rated full-back.

Lemos confirms reports from elsewhere that Aston Villa have seen a €15m bid rejected for Wesley, reporting that Flamengo consider the figure as ‘insufficient’.

They’ve already previously rejected a €12m offer from Bournemouth and a €20m offer from Atalanta for the player. They also consider him a key player in their squad and don’t intend to negotiate unless they’re offered ‘higher amounts’ for their man.

The club’s board understand that Wesley is in a ‘moment of great value’ after his performances last season and expect ‘significantly higher offers’ to be brought forward soon.

They know that Aston Villa are not the only European side interested and, it seems, are hoping a bidding war can be kickstarted to ramp up Wesley’s price.

It’s debatable whether Aston Villa would be foolish enough to engage in that, having been smart with their money in recent years, particularly when targeting young talent for the future.

They’ll need to dig deep if they want Wesley, though, with Flamengo playing hard ball and determined to get as much as possible for the 21-year-old.
