Clement Lenglet is on the front page of Monday’s edition of Sport, and it’s not because the Catalan newspaper is looking forward to welcoming the defender back to Barcelona.
The Frenchman spent last season on loan at Tottenham and the plan from the Blaugrana was that he wouldn’t return to the Camp Nou, with Spurs hopefully deciding to take him on a permanent deal.
That didn’t happen in the way expected, and the Premier League club released the player at the end of his loan. In Barcelona, that was seen as just a tactic to get the price down.
Sport go over why Barcelona need to get rid of Lenglet and others before they bring in new signings. Specifically with the defender, it’s said Barca ‘expect to collect’ €10m for the deal.
They expect that money to come from Tottenham, with it stated that’s the ‘normal’ outcome for this situation.
Spurs have had a strong negotiating arm here due to Barcelona’s need for sales and their desire to get the defender’s wages off their accounts.
