According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Atalanta could distance themselves from a deal with Middlesbrough to sign Marten de Roon. The Dutchman has been linked with a move to the Serie A side throughout this summer.

It’s been claimed Atalanta are still working on a deal to bring De Roon back after he left the Italian club to join Middlesbrough last summer.

There’s been talks with regards to the Netherlands international, but Atalanta are still unwilling to meet Middlesbrough’s valuation of the central midfielder.

The Championship side paid €14m for the player 12 months ago, and will expect a profit if he departs the club. Atalanta have reportedly tabled a bid for the player, but it’s nowhere near the English side’s demands.

Subsequently Atalanta could now switch their attention to Juventus midfielder Tomas Rincon, claim Gazzetta.

The 29 year old played just 18 games for the Serie A champions last season, and could move on this summer. Rincon has also been linked with Fiorentina and Bologna.

These claims sound much more believable than other reports over the weekend that De Roon was getting closer to Atalanta.
