Galatasaray deputy chairman Erden Timur has claimed their deals for Tottenham duo Tanguy Ndombele and Davinson Sanchez show they’re a power to be reckoned with.
The director has been speaking to the press following the conclusion of the Turkish transfer window, which proved to be a busy one for him and his club.
Galatasaray brought in no fewer than 14 new signings during the window, doing deals for the likes of Mauro Icardi, Kerem Demirbay, Angelino, and Wilfried Zaha.
Two of the new arrivals came from Tottenham, with midfielder Tanguy Ndombele arriving on a season long loan deal and Davinson Sanchez signing in a €9.5m deal.
The latter was very much a surprising one as it appeared he would be remaining with Spurs, where he had been given a chance to impress by new manager Ange Postecoglou.
Ndombele was less of a surprise given he has spent the last few years out on loan, with both him and Tottenham seemingly giving up on him being a success at the club.
Like Sanchez, who cost €42m to sign from Ajax in 2017, he joined Spurs for a big fee, joining for €62m from Lyon in 2019.
Neither proved to be worthy of those figures but Timur believes the fact that they once went for such prices proves his side had an excellent summer.
“The expectation and level rose so much that Ndombele, who played 40 matches last season when Napoli won the championship, most of them coming on as a substitute, arrived” he said.
“The most expensive transfer in Tottenham history. For the first time in Turkish football history, such a squad was established. We have 13 players equal to Drogba, Sneijder and Melo.
“Ndombele was transferred to Tottenham for €62m. The highest priced transfer in Tottenham history. Davinson Sanchez was transferred for €42m.”
